Scott Craig II
Jr. Vice Commander - Army

Scott J Craig II enlisted in the United States Army in 2006. He served for 7 years as an Airborne Infantry Mortarman until he was medically retired in 2013.


After infantry and airborne school, he headed to Germany and served in B Trp, 1-91 RSTA 173rd Airborne Brigade. There, he fought for 15 months in Nuristan Afghanistan at Camp Keating, where he received his Purple Heart after suffering a gunshot wound in the Battle of Saret Koleh. During that deployment he earned his Combat Infantryman Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Afghan Campaign Medal, and the NATO medal. Meritorious Unit Commendation  He followed this assignment with a short stint in the 2 Brigade of the 82nd Airborne Division assigned as the Global Response Force. Later he moved to Fort Polk, LA to deploy to Baraki Barak in Logar Province with C Co 2-30 IN 10th Mountain Division. He earned his second Afghan Campaign Medal, an additional NATO medal, and ARCOM medals. In a mortar attack during his last week of a 12 month deployment, he was injured helping a fellow service member get to cover, leading to his medical retirement.


His association with the Army was not finished as his wife, Kristine Craig, was also on active duty. He followed on serving in booster clubs as an Army spouse, and focused on his children Morgan, Syril, and William. He studied Political Science and Computer Science with UMGC while overseas, and the University of South Carolina while his wife was serving at USARCENT. At USC? Scott erved as the President of the Student Veterans Association. 


Scott and his wife joined the VFW as life members in 2023 after Kristine’s retirement from active duty, when they decided to settle in Lexington, SC. He currently serves as the Junior Vice Commander of Post 8738. He is also the Buddy Poppy chair of his post, and now serves as the State Legislative Chair and a National Legislative Council member.
